Phyllis Parun is a New Orleans-born artist, writer and philosopher who has been engaged in an exploration of the essence of life as it has been understood by ancient cosmologists, shamans and philosophers. Her purposeful cultivation for inner peace and personal stamina has led her to explore nutrition, creativity in poetry and art, natural healing and personal Qi cultivation for over thirty-five years. While on this path, she discovered healthy ways of cooking and living from ancient eastern health practices, and now she concentrates on the use of the principles of macrobiotic-style whole grain, mostly vegetarian cooking and QiGong for self-cultivation, which she shares with motivated students.
Ms. Parun is an artist with two college degrees in philosophy. Her belief that everyone can be educated to take charge of their own health led her to study with prominent masters of the Asian healing arts in macrobiotic cooking, shiatsu, meditation and QiGong. Her many teachers include macrobiotic shiatsu teacher Shizuko Yamamoto and cooking teachers Aveline Kushi and David Brisco; Qi cultivation teachers Ken Cohen, Yang Jwing-ming, Dr. Roger Jahnke, Chungliang Al Huang and Effie Chow; plant-based nutritionists T.Colin Campbell, John McDougall M.D. and many other talented and dedicated practitioners.
Ms. Parun taught intensively for 10 years at The New Orleans People Program and presented at medical and public schools, healing arts conferences and at the QiGong conferences over her 30-year career path.
An avid student of the practices of traditional societies and a practitioner of a natural lifestyle, Ms. Parun blends spontaneous and lively teaching methods with a meandering Taoist style as she weaves her way through many effective suggestions for practical daily living.
